Drew Nagao

About Drew

| Kootenay Regional Youth Representative |

Drew Nagao is a 17 year old Metis youth from Region 4, the Kootenays. He has been attending MNBC events since he was 7 and is looking forward to being the Youth Representative. Drew was chosen as a Youth Role Model in 2016 as he is an active member of his small, but ever-growing, Métis Charterd Community in Golden. Throughout this year, he has been a participant in an Aboriginal version of a training program called Respectful Relationships. This program is to teach students of all ages how to take on leadership roles and communicate mindfully.

Drew is involved in many cultural activities including fiddling and traditional Métis jigging, both performing and teaching on a regular basis. He is a very artistic youth, playing guitar and piano along with the fiddle. He has also taken up beading. Drew speaks fluent English and French, and has a strong interest in learning Michif and Cree.

Overall, Drew is an optimistic youth who hopes to get more Métis youth interested in their culture and history. He will be planning and hosting events in Golden and area, and will be attending most MNBC gatherings. Drew is always open to networking and would love to hear from Métis identifying citizens within the Kootenays.
