Elise Huisman is the Tri-River Métis Association Youth representative and has added so much to our Métis community. She has participated in a majority of our youth events and has volunteered her time to help with the set up and cleanup of activities. These events include our community dinners, youth camps and craft workshops to name a few. A highlight has been having her make us kettle corn at a lake side camp out.
Her artistic abilities have enriched our crafts during many of our youth events and she is always encouraging others to participate. Elise works hard at her family’s business “Grannies Old Fashion Popcorn” which sells kettle corn and other items at many of the community farmers markets in our region. Her work ethic is displayed in her many years and successes with the 4H club in Smithers, B.C. Elise has been a facilitator at many 4-H junior camps.
She has been a member of her high school Rugby team for the last five years, and is currently the Vice-Captain. Their team played in the 2014 Provincial Summer Games. Elise is currently enrolled in a duel credit course “Environmental Assessment Monitoring Program” at the Northwest Community College. This young lady is a grade 12 student who will be walking up on stage this coming June 2015. Elise displays a love for life and respect for her community which has been infectious with other youth.
We are proud to have Elise Huisman in our Métis family and we hope for her every success in future endeavors.
