Fully Funded Métis Community Support Worker Program

MNBC, in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) are piloting a Métis-specific Community Support Worker program to long-term unemployed or underemployed Métis people. The program has been funded by the government of Canada, through the Canada-British Columbia Job fund, and the Province of B.C.

The Métis Community Support Worker Program (MCSW) will be delivered by UFV at the Canada Education Park Campus in Chilliwack, BC. This is a low barrier program designed to support un- or underemployed Métis people in securing sustainable employment. In order to address the needs of this demographic, MNBC has identified a fast growing industry, the social services sector, which offers competitive wages and long-term sustainable employment opportunities. The MCSW will grant all successful participants a certificate from UFV’s Community Support Worker program. Upon completion, graduates of the MCSW program will be prepared for employment in community support roles, such as life skills assistants, rehabilitation therapy support workers, community health workers in group homes for people with mental and/or physical disabilities, and in various special education setting in school districts and private schools.
